Applications

The first Consarc specialty furnace was developed over 40 years ago. Today, over half the vacuum or controlled atmosphere melting furnaces around the globe bear the Consarc name. Consarc is an Inductotherm Group company, a strategic part of one of the world’s largest groups developing technologies for the melting and processing of high performance metals and alloys. ISO 9001:2015 certified and with operations worldwide, Consarc is well equipped to tackle furnace projects on a global basis. Consarc makes furnaces and related systems for vacuum induction melting (VIM), vacuum arc remelting (VAR), electroslag remelting (ESR), vacuum precision investment casting (VPIC), induction skull melting (ISM), solar silicon melting furnaces, as well as specialty furnaces for proprietary processes. All these products are distinguished by the flexibility Consarc offers in tailoring designs to customer needs.

VIM FURNACES: For producing nickel and cobalt based superalloys, stainless steels and specialty steels, magnetic and battery alloys, Consarc offers truly semi-continuous designs for improved performance and higher production in heat sizes to over 35 tons.

ESR FURNACES: These furnaces are for fully automated melting in air, dry air, or inert gas, in static or withdrawal modes. The industry standard in electroslag remelting furnaces is a coaxial design that Consarc developed over a quarter of a century ago. Consarc has installed the largest single electrode static furnace in the world, which can produce a final ingot of 2200 mm diameter x 150,000 kg.

VAR FURNACES: For fully automated melting of superalloys, steels, titanium, and high temperature alloys, Consarc offers a variety of designs to accommodate any process in diameters of 200 mm to over 1200 mm.

VPIC FURNACES: For equiax (EQ), directional solidification (DS), and single crystal (SC) casting, Consarc makes fully automated furnaces and patented Maxi-Move® melt coil translation systems.

ISM FURNACES: For super-clean, refractory free, melting of titanium and other alloys in a water cooled, segmented copper crucible, Consarc offers a tilt-pour system with or without centrifugal casting, as well as ingot withdrawal systems.

SILICON MELTING FURNACES: For refining silicon to upgraded metallurgical grade (UMG) or to solar grade (SoG) Consarc offers a variety of vacuum furnace systems. Consarc also offers Electromagnetic Casting (EMC) equipment for producing directionally solidified cast silicon ingots.

PROPRIETARY PROCESS: Consarc has extensive experience and attendant success in the application of its furnace technology for high temperature, vacuum or controlled atmosphere, heating projects including crystal growth, graphitising and CVD.
